Foreign Adviser Md Kamala today left for Kampala to attend the 19th mid-term review meeting of the Non-Aligned Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) ministerial level. Tawhid Hossain.

The meeting will be held in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, from October 14 to 16.

A foreign ministry spokesman told BSS that the adviser had departed for Uganda from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on an Ethiopian Airlines flight this afternoon.

He is expected to attend an event organised by the Bangladesh Embassy on Monday while he was in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. From there, he will go to Kampala to attend the NAM ministerial meeting with foreign ministers and senior representatives of other member states.

The three-day meeting, titled ‘Energation of Mutual Cooperation for Global Prosperity’, will be reviewed at the NAM Summit in 2024.

The meeting is expected to discuss NAM’s relevance, peace, security, human rights and the rule of law in the context of the changing global capacity balance.

The issue of Palestine will also be discussed. The meeting will reaffirm Nam’s long-standing commitment to international human rights law and relevant UN resolutions.

There are currently twelve member states of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), established in 1961. It is considered to be the largest group in the world outside of the military or political alliance.

Uganda, led by President Eweri Kaguta Museveni, adopted the NAM chairmanship in 2024, marking the new phase of South-South cooperation.

The mid-term ministerial meeting is expected to adopt important documents to determine the future action plan of NAM, which will guide the activities of the organization until the next conference.
